Liphatech’s® Rozol® RTU (Ready-to-Use) Ground Squirrel Bait now available in Canada in 50 lb. bags and 20 lb. pails from Univar Agriculture Canada, and Univar Environmental Sciences Ltd. and their dealers.
Milwaukee, WI (March 9, 2016) Rozol RTU (Ready-to-Use) Field Rodent Bait, registered in Canada for the control of Ground Squirrels and Pocket Gophers, is now available from Univar Canada, Ltd. Rozol RTU is available in convenient 20 lb. (9kg.) pails, and in economical 50 lb. (22.7kg.) bags for larger rodent control projects.
Rozol RTU (PMRA #29545) is labeled for use on Richardson’s, Columbian, Franklin, and Thirteen-lined Ground Squirrels, and for the control of Pocket Gophers. It can be used via spot baiting on the surface and in bait stations for ground squirrels in crop, non-crop and rangeland areas. It can also be used via hand baiting using a spoon or bait probe for the control of pocket gophers. Rozol RTU is easy-to-use, because there is no need to pre-treat, and its quick acceptance means less repeat applications, resulting in labor savings and a low applied cost per acre.
Rozol RTU is a powerful tool that landowners can use to manage ground squirrel and gopher infestations to reduce crop and property damage.
“Many landowners are experiencing extensive crop and forage damage - due to recent rodent population explosions and in-migration. Rozol RTU is a great, new tool, even later in spring when alternative food sources are available, because it doesn’t cause bait shyness like strychnine. The 20 lb. pail was introduced to respond to requests by landowners with smaller acreage, to facilitate trial use, and to permit easier storage of partially-used product,” according to Michael Brownell, District Sales Manager for Liphatech Inc.
Why manage ground squirrels and pocket gophers?
Ground squirrels have caused in excess of $40 million dollars in annual losses in grain and forage yields. Pocket gophers push 1-3 new mounds per day and can move over 2 tons of soil to the surface each year. In addition to direct crop loss and input costs, field rodent activity can damage: underground irrigation, drainage systems and wiring, and mounds can slow harvest and damage harvesting equipment. Ground squirrels and pocket gophers can decrease alfalfa yields by up to 46%. On rangeland, they can decrease available forage by up to 49%.
How it is used: Rozol RTU can be used anytime ground squirrels are active, not only before “green-up”. Use rate is 1/4 to 1/2 oz. (7 to 14 grams) per burrow, with re-baiting permitted after 48 hours. Bait station use is also permitted at a rate of up to 1.1 pounds (500 grams) per bait station, per 50 target animals counted, or every 30 to 60 meters. Bait stations should be maintained with an uninterrupted supply for three weeks or until signs of feeding have stopped.
When used to control pocket gophers by hand or probe baiting, Rozol RTU can also be used year-round. The use rate is 2-3 one-half cup (15 gram) placements per burrow system. Rozol RTU is a Commercial Product, only to be used by certified pest control operators, farmers, and persons authorized in government-approved pest control programs.
