Integrated weed management is the implementation of the different management strategies with the goal of reducing weed densities in the field. Research tells us the integration of combining different strategies is effective for achieving weed control while maintaining environmental and economic sustainability. IWM strategies are also an important resource for managing weed resistance which is a growing issue in Western Canadian crop production. The course offers ideas of prevention strategies, biosecurity, cultural, mechanical, biological and chemical tactics. It also considers Australia’s innovative development of harvest weed seed control and how it could be successfully applied in Western Canada to reduce weed seed populations in the field.
